Remote control that feels local
Add torrents or magnet links, start and stop transfers, manage queues, verify data, reannounce, and remove torrents from a responsive desktop interface.
Planetary is a fast, native remote interface for Transmission. Manage torrents, inspect peers and files, switch between servers, and keep an eye on the details without living in a browser tab.
Free and open source. Requires a running Transmission daemon with RPC access enabled.
The useful bits
Planetary keeps routine controls close at hand and puts deeper information where it belongs. Not hidden, not dumped into one enormous table, and not decorated with six dashboards nobody asked for.
Add torrents or magnet links, start and stop transfers, manage queues, verify data, reannounce, and remove torrents from a responsive desktop interface.
Save several Transmission connections and switch between them without rebuilding URLs or re-entering credentials.
Browse files, peers, trackers, transfer statistics, properties, and session information from one consistent interface.
A practical health indicator combines availability, seed counts, activity, completion state, and errors into a quick at-a-glance grade.
Optional local GeoIP lookup adds country flags to peer information. Lookups stay on your machine.
Automatically submit new torrent files from a watched folder, with history tracking to prevent accidental re-imports.
Get notified when torrents are added, completed, stalled, or report errors, using the desktop notification system.
Filter the torrent list by state, tracker, folder, or name, and search within a torrent's file tree.
A closer look
The interface stays familiar to Transmission Remote GUI users while taking advantage of a modern Qt foundation and native platform behavior.
Why Planetary?
Transmission Remote GUI set a high bar for remotely managing Transmission from a desktop. Planetary began as a modern C++ and Qt reimplementation, built to remain at home on current versions of macOS, Windows, and Linux.
It is intentionally focused: connect to Transmission, manage transfers well, expose useful information, and stay out of the way.
Note: initial focus has been on a stable macOS client. While the project builds and runs on Windows and Linux, it hasn't received the same level of polish as the macOS build has up to this point. Expect Windows and Linux builds to receive more refinement in the near future.
Ready when your daemon is
Planetary is free, open source, and built for people who would rather manage torrents than manage the software managing their torrents.
